For plentiful good books for all ages see: Christian Liberty Press (US) - but some stocked by Conquest books (UK) - see below. http://www.shopchristianliberty.com/
Ladybird Peter and Jane Reading Scheme We only advise using books in the a and b series, as the c series is look and say, giving no clear spelling rules and emphasising only memorisation which were at pains to avoid. We used it alongside our phonic programme: www.readingmadesimple.weebly.com
The Robinson Crusoe Reader www.shopchristianliberty.com/the-robinson-crusoe-reader/ Course Description: This reader provides youngsters with exciting and morally uplifting reading material. To help this classic story come alive for students, detailed teaching suggestions are included which outline arts and crafts activities that are correlated to the story.
Little Bear books
These are old fashioned, but delightful first reading books featuring a little cute bear.
The Little country Books
Again old fashioned, but so lovely! If you have more than one child it wouldn't work out too expensive to build up a set. Countryside stories with a moral. http://www.stellabooks.com/books/lavinia-derwent You will also find these in theMothers' Companioncurriculum in printable format.
It is not always easy to find books that give the early reader enough to stimulate their need for longer books but are relevant to their interests and age. This stage will soon pass though, so do your best and keep them reading, even if it's only non-fiction material. Here are some of our favourites. Some of these we read to them at first, but later on they read them for themselves. Animal Stories with a moral by Arthur Scott Bailey These are delightful stories. There are more if you can find them elsewhere.
Classic Ladybird books, both fiction and non-fiction
Classic Thomas the Tank Engine books by Rev Awdry I do not recommend the modern ones due to more 'magic' and a general lessening in quality of language.
Peter's Railway series A delightful series for train lovers and budding engineers. http://petersrailway.com/
Amy Le Feuvre Books http://biblio.co.uk/amy-le-feuvre/author/15443 Delightful stories with a Christian theme, aimed at younger readers - possibly 7 upwards. There are lots of them. We found them in charity shops mainly and at our Christian Library in London. http://evangelical-library.org.uk/
52 Spurgeon Stories for Children By Tony Hutter Books 1, 2, 3 and 4. I don't like the illustrations on the covers of these books, but the stories are true and well written. https://www.dayone.co.uk/search?page=2&q=spurgeon
